Pro Bono Students Canada is pleased to announce that in the 2011-2012 year, student volunteers will be able to put PBSC on their transcripts as part of the University of Manitoba's new Co-Curricular Record policy. The Co-Curricular record allows extra-curricular activities to be listed on a student's transcript. PBSC volunteering wll fall under the "service learning" category. |

Greetings!
We are excited to begin organizing ProBono opportunities for students, lawyers and organizations for 2010-2011. Both Billy and myself share a passion for social justice, community involvement and the belief that practicing law ought to protect the public interest. ProBono achieves these goals by working with organizations and individuals that might otherwise not be able to access legal services.
Volunteering with ProBono is an excellent way for students to be exposed to public interest law and to develop valuable research and writing skills. If you are a student, consider volunteering your time during the school year or even over summer. Projects are formalized throughout the summer and will be posted in the projects tab.
If you are a lawyer, consider volunteering time supervising projects and giving guidance to students. Many student volunteers are in their first year of law school. They have energy and passion but need to be pointed in the right direction. Encouraging a strong work ethic and high quality research now cultivates habits that will help them when they become lawyers in the future.
If you are with an organization and would benefit from student volunteers working with you on a legal question or providing a legal service, consider completing a project proposal form or contact us and we can work with you to structure the project. ProBono generally works with organizations that provide a public service or that advocate a cause in the public interest.
